Most people know Brač for Zlatni Rat — the famous white pebble beach that shifts shape with the current and extends into crystal clear water with Hvar visible across the channel. It's one of the most photographed natural landmarks in Croatia, and for good reason. But Bol offers far more than just that beach: a Dominican Monastery that has stood above the sea since 1475, a historic old town of stone houses and narrow alleys, and secluded coves along the coastline that feel like they belong to a different, quieter Croatia entirely.
I'm based in Split — Brač is a 50-minute ferry ride away and one of the islands I shoot most regularly. I know exactly when Zlatni Rat is at its most photogenic, how the monastery gardens catch the afternoon light, and where the quiet stretches of coastline are that most visitors never reach. That local knowledge shapes every session I photograph here.
Where I Shoot in Bol & Brač
Zlatni Rat Beach
Zlatni Rat — the Golden Cape — is unlike any other beach in Croatia. A long tongue of white pebbles extending 500 metres into the turquoise sea, shifting shape with wind and current, with Hvar filling the horizon across the channel and pine trees lining the shore. It's been called one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, and standing on the tip of it with the sea on three sides, it's easy to understand why.
For elopement ceremonies and couples sessions, the early morning is when Zlatni Rat is completely transformed — the crowds that fill it from 10am onwards simply don't exist yet, the water is mirror-flat, and the light is soft and directional. An elopement at the tip of Zlatni Rat at sunrise is one of the most memorable sessions I photograph anywhere in Dalmatia. For family sessions, the late afternoon works beautifully — children in the water, parents at the shore, warm light catching everything naturally.
Best for: sunrise elopements, intimate vow exchanges, couples and family sessions
Best time: early morning for elopements and couples; late afternoon for families
Insider tip: Zlatni Rat gets very windy in the afternoon in summer — it's Croatia's top kitesurfing spot for a reason. Morning sessions avoid both wind and crowds
Mood: open, iconic, the sea on all sides — genuinely unlike anywhere else in Croatia
Important timing note for Zlatni Rat:
The beach gets extremely busy by mid-morning in July and August, and the afternoon wind (the maestral) is strong enough to affect both hair and audio for vow exchanges. I always recommend morning sessions here — the difference in atmosphere is dramatic.

Dominican Monastery
Built in 1475 on a rocky promontory between Bol's old town and Zlatni Rat, the Dominican Monastery of Bol is one of the most atmospheric locations I photograph anywhere in Croatia. The monastery and its gardens sit directly above the sea, with stone walls, cypress trees, a courtyard garden, and views across the channel to Hvar that feel entirely peaceful even in the height of summer.
For elopements, the monastery's setting offers something the beach can't — shade, architectural drama, and an intimate enclosed atmosphere. Vow exchanges in the monastery garden or on the sea-facing walls have a gravitas and beauty that photographs in a completely different register from the open beach. The combination of ancient stone, Mediterranean planting, and sea views is one of the most distinctive settings I work with.
Best for: elopement ceremonies, intimate vow renewals, elegant couples portraits
Best time: late afternoon when the stone glows warm and the garden is in soft shade
Practical note: the monastery is an active religious site — sessions require respectful timing and appropriate dress
Mood: ancient, peaceful, quietly dramatic — the most intimate setting in Bol

Hidden Coves Along the Coast
East and west of Bol, the Brač coastline is dotted with small rocky coves accessible on foot or by water taxi — largely unknown to most visitors and almost completely private even in peak season. Clear turquoise water, limestone cliffs, pine shade, and the kind of seclusion that's genuinely rare on a Croatian island in summer. For couples who want an elopement or intimate session somewhere that feels truly private and off the beaten track, these coves offer something that no organised beach location can replicate.
Best for: intimate elopements, adventurous couples, private vow exchanges away from any crowd
Best time: morning for the best light and maximum privacy

Elopements, Couples & Family Sessions
Brač is one of the few locations in Dalmatia that works equally well for three completely different types of session — and I photograph all three here regularly.
For elopements and vow renewals, the combination of Zlatni Rat at sunrise and the Dominican Monastery in the afternoon creates a natural two-location session with completely different moods — open and iconic at the beach, intimate and architectural at the monastery. Most couples who elope on Brač combine both within the same day.
For couples sessions, Bol gives you variety within a short walk — beach, old town, monastery gardens, cliffside coastline — so even a 60-minute session tells a full story of the island rather than just one setting.
For family sessions, Brač is genuinely ideal — children love Zlatni Rat for swimming, the old town is safe and walkable, and the afternoon light is consistently beautiful. Families visiting the island for a week often book a session on their second or third day once the children are relaxed and comfortable with the setting.
Everything You Need to Know
Ferry from Split to Supetar (50 min) then bus to Bol (1 hr), or direct catamaran from Split to Bol in summer (1 hr). I coordinate travel and timing with your session.
May–June: warm, uncrowded, beautiful soft light. September: golden, relaxed, the island quiet again. July–August: morning sessions essential to avoid wind and crowds at Zlatni Rat.
60 min for a focused single-location session. 90 min for beach plus old town or monastery. Full elopement day packages also available combining multiple locations.
